Today's portable Honda generators have roots in the 1960's. Beginning in 1963, Honda's engineers were directed by Mr. Honda himself to develop a small portable generator. Nothing like it existed. By 1965 the E300 was in production. At Gap Power we never sold any of these (before our time) but have seen a few come in for service over the years. I see them on EBay now and then............in case you want to own a bit of nostalgia!
By the late 70's and well into the late 80's we were selling these red EM500's and grey EM600's at Stoltzfus Woodwork - where our own roots are. A few are still in use for battery charging and show up in our Honda Generator Repair Shop from time to time. They were a nice compliment to the Makita 7.2 and 9.6 volt cordless drills....REMEMBER THOSE?.........not to be compared to the new lithium ion tools of today!Honda's continual improvement of the portable suitcase style generator resulted in the more refined EM650 in the early 90's, then the EX1000 that we Honda dealers sold in the 1990's. Great upgrade from the 600 and 650 but still not big enough. The one we have today, the EU2200i Inverter model, was introduced in 2018. In late 1999 the earlier model EU2000i was released for sale just before Y2K - remember that?
