Locating leaks in underground pipes is do-able with the right tool.
Consider though, before investing in the discovery process, whether or not you might just end up replacing and abandoning the pipeline. If it is an old line needing to be replaced just shut off the supply, spend a few hundred to rent a
Small Excavator and drop a new line in.
Newer pipes can leak too. If the line is under an area you can only disturb minimally, you should look into locating and repairing the source of the leak.
The sound of the leak can be used to locate the source fairly well if in a metal pipe - not so well in a PVC pipe. Use the
Vivax Detector with acoustical setup.
In a PVC pipe use the same tool,
VIVAX DETECTOR with Helium Sniffer Locator. Using a safe 95% Nitrogen /5%Helium mixture, plumb up the line to our tank and open the valve when ready. The helium gases rise straight up compared to the random rise of other gases. This attribute of the helium gases enables locating leaks even under concrete and asphalt because it will tend to rise straight up and not spread out as many other gases do.
You will want to have some training on the use of the Gap Power Rental
VIVAX DETECTOR prior to using it We will provide that either in our store or at your site upon delivery. While there is no guarantee of results we have had much success by our users.
