FAQ

When is this DeWalt 20V compact crimping tool the right choice for my electrical job?

This is commonly used for: terminating commercial electrical service panels; crimping heavy copper lugs up to 600 MCM; installing aluminum feeder conductors up to 350 MCM; switchgear tie-ins; electrical service entrance upgrades. It shines in tight enclosures and overhead tray work where manual mechanical crimpers cannot fit or cause operator fatigue. For cables exceeding 600 MCM copper or jobs specifying dieless compression, a larger-tonnage or dieless crimper is required.

What conductor materials and wire gauge sizes can this crimper handle?

The included die sets support copper conductors from #8 AWG up to 600 MCM and aluminum conductors from #8 AWG up to 350 MCM. The tool produces cULus certified crimps when paired with compatible U-type dies and approved lugs. Always verify your cable size and lug material before selecting your die to prevent improper compression.

What items are included in the crimper rental kit?

The rental kit includes the DeWalt 20V crimping tool, two 20V lithium-ion batteries, a battery charger, a shoulder strap, a USB cord, and two carrying cases with DeWalt U-type dies for both copper and aluminum. Having two batteries lets you keep one charging while working so your crew experiences zero downtime.

How does the tool's design help when working inside crowded panels or pull boxes?

At only 7.2 pounds and under 15 inches in length, the tool is compact enough for one-handed positioning in confined spaces. Its 180-degree pivoting head rotates smoothly, allowing you to square up the dies on stiff, awkward cables without putting dangerous bend stress on the conductors.

How do I verify a crimp is complete, and what common mistakes should I avoid?

Hold the trigger until the tool completes its full crimping cycle and automatically releases pressure. The onboard intelligence system tracks successful cycles to help confirm tool performance. Avoid matching copper dies to aluminum lugs, misaligning the connector in the die cavity, or releasing the trigger early, as incomplete crimps create high electrical resistance and fail code inspections.
