FAQ
Where does a 12-foot power screed board shine, and when should I choose a different size?+
This 12-foot screed board is commonly used for: striking off wide residential driveways; leveling detached garage and pole barn slabs; pouring large commercial pads; consolidating outdoor patio slabs. Choose this 12-foot board when forms or screed rails are spaced wide enough to maximize your pour speed and minimize cold joints. If your project involves narrow sidewalks, tight basement rooms with support columns, or tight radius curves, an 8-foot or 10-foot board is significantly easier to maneuver.
Does this rental include the vibrating motor drive unit, or is it the board only?+
This listing is for the 12-foot screed board itself. It is included when bundled with a complete power screed rental, but it is also available board-only for contractors who already own a compatible drive unit. Verify whether you need the motorized handle assembly added to your order before leaving the yard.
How should the concrete be prepped before pulling the 12-foot vibrating screed?+
Concrete should be placed and roughly raked flat to within 1/2 to 1 inch above the finish grade ahead of the screed. Vibrating screeds are designed to consolidate and strike off high spots, not push large bulk piles of concrete. Forcing a 12-foot board against large piles will bog down vibration, strain the motor, and create dips in the slab.
What is the biggest finish quality mistake to avoid when using a vibrating screed?+
The most common mistake is allowing the vibrating board to idle in one spot while running. Stationary vibration causes the blade to sink, creating low spots and drawing excessive slurry to the surface that can weaken the finished concrete. Maintain a steady, continuous backward walking pace and throttle down immediately if progress stops.
