This tool is commonly used for: trimming metal roofing panels on elevated roofs; cutting across corrugated ribs; cutting curved openings and circles for duct penetrations; and trimming spiral duct seams. The offset 360-degree swivel head keeps your hands safely above the material and navigates tight contours without burning paint like an abrasive wheel. For steel thicker than 18-gauge, an angle grinder or metal saw is better, while nibblers are better for sharp internal cutouts but leave messy crescent chips.

It is rated to cut up to 18-gauge mild sheet steel and can slice through 20-gauge spiral duct seams. Do not attempt to force it through heavier plate, structural studs, or hard stainless steel beyond its rating, as this will stall the motor and damage the cutting blades.

The rental package includes the cordless shear, two 20V rechargeable batteries, and a charger. With two batteries provided, you can keep one on the charger while using the other for continuous cutting across roofs, staging, or duct runs without dragging cords or air hoses.

Yes, unlike abrasive cut-off grinders that throw hot sparks and burn painted coatings, this shear produces cold mechanical cuts with clean edges and minimal heat. It removes a continuous thin curl of waste, preserving protective galvanization and factory finishes on roofing and siding panels.

Yes, the clearance provided by the offset head design allows the shear to transition over corrugation ribs and roof profiles. To prevent binding, adjust the swivel head to an angle that allows smooth forward travel and let the motor maintain full speed rather than forcing the blades across the rib.
